Once More, With Feeling

What do you know about these butterfly knives
And these lonely old widowed wives
These childless soldiers who once fought
Now buried in the dirt left alone without a thought
Bled dry is your mind from lack of foresight
But I'll loan you some of mine without fear of sleight
Because I'm the one sent to help ease the pain
You forgot I was here because you're so vain

Take what I want from you and then I'm gone
Left you with nothing but this lonesome song
Can you carry a tune when there's no one to hear it
Don't be embarrassed, there's no reason to fear it
They can't critique it when their own voice is hollow
So bring out the vibrato in your voice, don't be shallow
I can bring you good luck if you ask in the right tone
But I won't think twice to destroy the facade you call a throne

Am I painting a picture or just angrily ranting
Look beneath these words to see if I'm worth chanting
It's your decision so I suggest choosing carefully
Because you may be reciting the words of a man living hatefully
My anger is contagious so I expect to spread the sickness
It's something I'm fond of, my own personal dissonance
I've dismantled your armor and invaded your blood stream
Shriveled up your life and turned it into my own sick dream

Take another hit of this and forget about the rest
Crumbling all around you is your life in distress
You live for the moment you can forget the pain
Put the mask back on and return to your reign
Throw out all the memories of distorted relationships
Pull back in a shell of glorified past hardships
Pupils dilate with your own significant elation
Stay still so you can enjoy this fleeting sensation
